Concert Promotion
In between songwriting, producing and gigging, I've also worked in concert promoting.

In a couple of weeks, I'll be down in LA for the ASCAP Convention. I went last year and had a great time and learned a lot. And of course met many great people.
Here's the line up this year:

XSample
I met XSample the first day he came to America, at a practice for Sister-I-Live. The next day I played keyboards for him at a UC Berkeley fraternity. A week or two he came with Sister Sharon and I to a show in San Francisco. Driving there crossing the bridge, I let them hear the unfinished tracks for the Get 2 Nomi CD. I was sitting in the back seat and XSample turned half way around to look at me. "Is that you singing?" I answered yes and that I also played most of the tracks. He kept turning to look at me and rewinding the first song, Aphrodesiac. He started singing along with it and I asked if he wanted to do a remix. If it was good enough, I'd put it on as a bonus track. He ended up doing two remixes on the album, Afrodesiac and Conpspiracy.
XSample's bio (from My Space)
"Xsample... resided in Oakland California where he learned music from the Queen of hooks Nomiyah"

Forwards
For those of you unfamiliar with the term, a "forward" is when a song gets through a gate-keeper to someone who wants to use the song. A forward is the first step to getting a song deal so it's good news.

King Of Kings
When I was 13-years-old, my best friend Sophie Conty and I wrote the song "King of Kings" to sing at her church. We were asked to perform it for a convention of missionaries. There were about a thousand people in the audience and we were scared but dared each other to do it. It's a simple song in a 2-part round and the audience learned it quickly and sang along. Afterwards, those missionaries scattered throughout the world and the song went with them. The pastor at Sophie's church saw it published in a songbook as anonymous and contacted the company to let them know we were the songwriters. (Thanks for taking action!!!!) Maranatha Music, one of the largest Christian publishers, offered us a contract and it's been successful ever since. The song has been translated into several languages, recorded by many artists and is still performed as a classic praise song in countless church services.
Performing
Gig gig gig... that's how I spent most of my life. Here are some of the interesting ones.
